You won't know that you've met your goals until you set your goals. Click To Tweet

Kathleen here. We recently had a little behind-the-scenes shake-up here at Being Boss: we lost one of our two generous podcast sponsors who had been with us for quite a while. In reality, it’s not a huge deal, but it shook me up enough to throw me into a scarcity mindset. I began questioning the future of our show and if I was silly to think I could really make a sustainable living doing what I love.

So I reached for the #1 tool I’ve been using to manifest what I want since I first started working for myself: The Chalkboard Method. Emily and I have successfully been using the “chalkboard method” at Braid Creative and Indie Shopography to attract dream clients, grow our following, and to make space for creating digital products and passive income for years. The Chalkboard Method holds us accountable to setting big goals and seeing it through—at the same time we’re literally making space for what we want and asking for it. After tha,t it’s about trust in the Universe and doing the work.

The “Chalkboard Method” is a visual goal-setting system that:

  • breaks down long term dreams into short term goals – objectives that are realistic and achievable (goodbye overwhelm)
  • holds you accountable to get started and do the work – we all know getting started is the hardest part to turning your ideas and dreams into a reality
  • is “in your face” and easy to track – this system doesn’t replace your online systems and processes, but it does make your intentions known in your physical space
  • uses a little bit of magic to attract the things you want

Confession: I hadn’t made a chalkboard yet for Being Boss. Emily and I have made plenty of goals over the past year and a half, but I hadn’t yet made space for those goals. I started by listed out everything I want:
I made space for another sponsor.
I listed out all the travel and speaking gigs we’ve acquired and space for a couple more.
I made space for more CEO Day Kit members.
In the corner, I drew a little book and wrote “Being Boss: The Book.”

Two days later, we got a call from a well-known agent who not only loves our show and “gets” us but feels confident that we can turn this podcast into a best-selling book. Oh, and we booked more Being Boss travel a couple days after that. Ask and ye shall receive, FOR SURE.

It's not enough to just understand the concept, you have to actually do it. Click To Tweet

We’ve been sharing this goal-setting tool with our friends and creative colleagues for a while now, but recently it has gotten some buzz within the Being Boss community—and you all are asking for more! I thought about turning this into a paid offering but it felt better to give it all away. I want you to make a chalkboard and get what you want ASAP.

Now, I have had some creatives ask me “Okay, I get the chalkboard method but how do I actually FILL the spaces?” and I’ll ask them if they’ve literally created their chalkboard yet… typically the answer is “no”. It’s not enough to understand the concept of the chalkboard. You have to actually do it!

We designed this worksheet so it will only take an hour (max) of your time and at the end of it, you have a tangible, goal-setting system you can immediately put into place. I even share an example of our own chalkboard so you can see what it looks like.

We’re sharing more details about the Chalkboard and how it works in Episode #79 of Being Boss.
